This book was written in order to provide both students and teachers of manual therapy with a comprehensive source detailing assessment and treatment techniques for the lower limb.
The years we have dedicated to this book have seen tremendous advances in functional anatomy, biomechanics and rehabilitation. We have strived to incorporate the most recent research in order to make the techniques presented as contemporary as possible.
- 560 pages with detailed assessment and treatment techniques for both basic and advanced levels of manual therapy, including grade V mobilisations
- Almost 800 photographs illustrating the text

Subtalar Joint Assesment
Passive Osteokinematic Test/ Inversion
Joint: Subtalar Joint
Technique: Passive Osteokinematic Mobility Test/Inversion
Patient: Supine, lower leg supported on a towel with the foot unsupported over the edge of the table.
Therapist: Standing at the end of the table, facing the patient.
Palpation: Using the thenar eminence of the hand, palpate the medial aspect of the neck of the talus. Using the thenar eminence of the other hand, palpate the lateral aspect of the calcaneus, at the anterior subtalar joint line.
Assessment: Stabilise the talus. Passively invert the calcaneus about the appropriate axis. Note the quality and quantity of motion and the end feel. Compare with the opposite extremity.

A Workbook of Manual Therapy Techniques for the Vertebral Column and Pelvic Girdle
This second, fully revised edition of Workbook of Manual Therapy Techniques for the Vertebral Column and Pelvic Girdle, by Mari Walsh and Diane Lee, contains information on the latest techniques in both assessment and treatment of the vertebral column and pelvic girdle, and techniques are illustrated with several hundred clear photographs for ease of knowledge acquisition.
One independent reviewer, Mr. Thomas L. Harmon, PT., OCS, calls this book “well organized,” and highly recommends it “as an excellent acquisition to one’s library for reference and review of manual therapy techniques.” “The book,” he adds, “is helpful for experienced manual therapists wishing to add to their knowledge of manual therapy evaluative and treatment techniques.” (Thomas L. Harmon, PT, OCS, Lincoln Physical Therapy Association in JOSPT, Vol.23, No3, September 1997, p. 197.)

Lumbar Region
Passive Stability Test of Arthrokinetic Function
Anterior translation L3-4
Patient: Prone
Therapist: Standing at the patient’s side.
Palpate: With the index and long finger of the caudal hand, palpate the articular pillars of the L4 vertebra. With the pisiform and ulnar border of the cranial hand, palpate the spinous process of the L3 vertebra.
Test: Fix L4 and apply a posteroanterior force to the L3 vertebra in a PURE horizontal plane (Arrow). Sustain the force until the end feel is perceived. Note the quantity and end feel of motion as well as the reproduction of any symptoms.
Addendum: The findings from this test should be correlated with those of the posterior translation test to determine the segmental level of instability
